FAQ:

Q: Why did my or my friend's events duplicate?

A: Event duplication is a problem that can occur when synchronizing with Google. Google automatically adds events to your calendar if you are listed as an attendee on an event, whether you created it, or someone else created it. If you create an event with a friend as an attendee, they will see that event in their calendar. The most common situations which lead to this happening are:

    1. Create a sync calendar in Calgoo Calendar between Outlook and Google. Delete the calendar.Create a new sync calendar which synchronizes between the same Outlook and Google calendars. This causes all events to appear as "new" events. When the Outlook and Google calendars are synchronized, all events will duplicate.

    2. Imported a friend's calendar with read only permissions. Delete the calendar as a sync source from within the Calendar details. Then add a new sync source which is a new Google calendar. In this case, your friend will most likely appear as an attendee on the events which they created. When you synchronize these events to a new Google calendar, Google automatically adds these "new" events to your friend's calendar as invitations.

    3. Create a custom sync calendar which contains 2 Google calendars. When you synchronize these 2 Google calendars, events with attendees may be interpreted by Google as "new" events. Google then automatically adds these events to the calendars of the attendees.  This will cause the events to duplicate.

Q: How do I prevent event duplication?

A: The easiest way to prevent duplication is to make sure you do not synchronize calendars with more than one Google calendar. Additionally, you should not synchronize a calendar which previously synchronized with Google again. If you must recreate up an Outlook to Google sync calendar, the best solution is as follows:

Outlook 2003 users: Make sure your Google calendar is correct and up to date Then delete all events from your Outlook calendar. Set up your new Outlook and Google sync calendar. Your events should not duplicate.

Outlook 2007 users: Because Outlook 2007 supports invitations, re-creating an Outlook to Google sync calendar is a bit more difficult. First, make sure your Google calendar is correct and up to date. Then delete all events which you have created, rather than were invited to, from your Outlook calendar. If you choose to delete all events, Outlook 2007 will prompt you whenever you delete an event which is from an invitation. Choose "Delete without sending a response", otherwise the creator of the event and perhaps evenall attendees will receive an email notifying them that you are not attending the event. Then you can recreate your Outlook to Google sync calendar andyour events should not duplicate.
