Q: Why does Calgoo use so much memory?

A: There are several reasons why Calgoo appears to take a lot of memory.

Calgoo is a Java application, and does not have direct control over your system's memory usage. Java manages your system's resources and often decides to "reserve" more memory than it needs ahead of time, based on many factors such as how much available memory your system have, your memory usage pattern, etc. If Calgoo is actively running in the foreground it may reserve more memory, whereas if Calgoo has been idling in the background Java will "let go" of some reserved memory. For example, if Calgoo shows to be using 200MB of memory in your task manager, it could in reality only be using 60MB of memory, the remaining 140MB is ready to be "let go" as soon as it is not needed anymore.

Additionally, Calgoo pre-loads and caches an optimal amount of your calendars and events to optimize data access, sync duration, click-response time, etc. While this pre-loading does take up more memory, it improves performance significantly in later operations.

Q: I want to synchronize my Outlook calendar on my work computer with an Outlook Calendar at home. How do I do that?

A: To synchronize your two calendars you will need to install Calgoo Connect on both computers. Start with one of the computers, lets say at home, and follow the steps to synchronize an Outlook calendar with a new Calgoo Hub calendar here. Select the home calendar you want to synchronize It is best at this point to also choose to use a new Calgoo Hub calendar rather than using an existing one and let's call the calendar on Calgoo Hub "work schedule". Once you have access to the second computer (in this example, at work), again follow the steps to synchronize an Outlook calendar with a Calgoo Hub calendar here This time, however, when you are selecting your Calgoo Hub calendar, browse for an existing calendar and choose to synchronize with the calendar "work schedule". You should now have a connector from your work computer to the same Calgoo Hub calendar you created a connector to at home. All you have to do now is run connect on both machines and allow it to automatically synchronize every hour to keep your two Outlook calendars the same.

Q: I deleted my Outlook-Google Connector, then created it again. Why did all of my events duplicate?

A: Once you have broken the connection between two calendars by deleting the connector, it also breaks the connection between events. The meeting at 5pm on Friday that appears in your Outlook calendar and in your Google calendar may be the same event, but because the event connection has been broken, they are treated as 2 different events.  So now it looks like you have 2 new events, 1 from Outlook and 1 from Google.  When you synchronize, these events get duplicated since they appear to both be "new."

Q: I created a Connector with Google as one of the sync sources. I decided that I wanted to synchronize with a different Google calendar, but instead deleted the Google source and added a new one. Why did all of the events with attendees duplicate?

A: When you synchronize a calendar with attendees to Google, it automatically adds that event to the calendars of your attendees. If you are an attendee, it will duplicate on your calendar. It will also duplicate the event on any of your attendees calendars. It is not recommended that you synchronize connectors to Google if they previously synchronized with a Google calendar.

Q: How do I prevent event duplication?

A: The easiest way to prevent duplication is to make sure you do not synchronize connectors with more than one Google calendar. Additionally, you should not synchronize a connector which previously synchronized with Google again. If you must recreate an Outlook to Google connector, the best solution is as follows:

Outlook 2003 users: Make sure your Google calendar is correct and up to date. Then delete all events from your Outlook calendar.  Set up your new Outlook and Google connector. Your events should not duplicate.

Outlook 2007 users: Because Outlook 2007 supports invitations, re-creating an Outlook to Google sync calendar is a bit more difficult. First, make sure your Google calendar is correct and up to date. Then delete all events which you have created, rather than were invited to, from your Outlook calendar. If you choose to delete all events, Outlook 2007 will prompt you whenever you delete an event which is from an invitation. Choose "Delete without sending a response", otherwise the creator of the event and perhaps even all attendees will receive an email notifying them that you are not attending the event. Then you can recreate your Outlook to Google connector and your events should not duplicate.

Google Calendar

Q: Why do Google events duplicate?

A: If you synchronize calendar Google1 with Outlook1, and then synchronize Outlook1 with Google2, your event's attendees will be invited again, thus duplicating the event in their Google Calendar. This is due to a design incompatibility with Google Calendar. To prevent your attendees from seeing these duplicated events, you may ask them to switch off the automatically add invitations to my calendar option in Google Calendar.

Q: How do reminders work with Google?

A: Google Calendar supports multiple reminders at different intervals, but Calgoo does not. When synchronizing events from Google; if the event contains more than one reminder, only the first one is synchronized.

Apple iCal

Q: Which Apple iCal versions are supported?

A: We support iCal 3.0.4 which was part of the OS X 10.5.4 update and iCal version 2.0.5 for
OS X 10.4.

Q: How does synchronization with iCal work?

A:
  • Reminders are not synchronized with Apple iCal due to incompatibilities between Connect reminders and iCal
  • Attendees without email addresses are synchronized, but cannot be displayed in Connect
  • Simultaneous use of other sync products may affect synchronization speed

Q: How can I run Calgoo Connecy on system start on my Mac?

A: There are two ways to achieve this:

1. Start the application, right click on the Calgoo dock icon and select "Open at Login"

2. Go to the system preferences and open the Account pane, select your user and add Calgoo to the Login Items

30 Boxes

Q: How does synchronization with 30 Boxes work?

A:

  • Connect supports synchronization of 30 Boxes event summary, description, time, tags, and location
  • Invited events can be updated in other calendar clients but cannot be updated to 30 Boxes
  • 30 Boxes does not support all forms of recurrence, so some recurring events may not be displayed properly in 30 Boxes
  • Accept/Decline status cannot be synchronized with 30 Boxes
