FAQ

Q: Where can I get the address/URL of the calendar?

A: If a calendar was shared with you, you will see the address of the calendar in the email that was sent to you. If you have a Calgoo account, you can login to Calgoo Hub and select the calendar you want to get the address of. Then simply click on the "subscribe" button.

It will take you to new page which will have the calendar address in a text field. Copy this URL to add it to your calendar application.

Q: I shared a calendar with a friend, but they can't find the email anymore. They don't have a Calgoo account, so how can they get the address of my calendar?

A: It is easy to resend the email to your friend. Login into Calgoo Hub and select the calendar you shared with them. Go to the sharing page and find the person in the "Share with specific people" section. To the right of the person you will see a small envelope icon. Click on this icon to send your friend an email with the address of your calendar.

Q: I shared a calendar with a friend, but they gave the URL out to other people on accident. What can I do?

A: It is very easy to generate a new, unique calendar address for a friend. Login to Calgoo Hub, choose the calendar, and go to the sharing page. Find your friend's permissions under the "Share with specific people" section. To the right of the person, you will see a little lightning bolt icon.

Click on this icon to reset the URL for this person. They will receive an email with their new URL. Their old URL will not work any more.

Q: I gave out my private URL to other people on accident. What can I do?

A: If you have a Calgoo account, login to Calgoo Hub. Select the calendar you had a problem with. Click on the "subscribe" button at the top of the calendar information. On this page you will see a warning about sharing your URL. At the end of the warning, click on the link "reset your calendar address."

This will give you a new URL for your calendar. Your old URL will no longer work. Use this new URL to access the calendar.

Q: What is the difference between the public address of my calendar, the address my friends receive in an email, and my private address?

A: The public address of a calendar allows you to share a calendar with everyone you want, all with the same permissions level (they can have different permission. One could be busy only and the other one read event). Your private address is the unique URL for you, whether you are the owner of the calendar or someone has shared it with you. This URL allows you to access the calendar with a specific set of permissions. If you are the owner, you have read-write access. If someone has shared the calendar with you, you will have free-busy or read-only access. The address your friends receive in the email is their private address for that calendar. This allows them to access the calendar easily from their choice of calendar applications.

Q: What is a public calendar address?

A: The public address appears underneath the "Share with Everyone" section of the sharing page on Hub. Essentially, this allows you to share a calendar with lots of people at one time by granting the "public" read-only or free-busy access to your calendar. This address can be emailed to people, posted on a web-page, etc. Anyone who uses this address can view your calendar via their calendar application, such as Calgoo Calendar, Sunbird, or Outlook. This option is great for things like sport team schedules, club schedules, and conference schedules.

Q: What is a private calendar address?

A: The private calendar address is a unique URL for each person who has been granted individual or specific permissions to the calendar.

If someone has shared a calendar with you, you will have a private URL which allows you to access the calendar from your calendar application, e.g. Calgoo Calendar, Sunbird, Outlook Calendar, etc. The amount of information you can see will depend on how much information the calendar owner has granted you. At this time, you will either have read-only access or free-busy access.
If someone has shared a calendar with you, do not give out that calendar address (private URL) to other people. This is essentially the same thing as giving out your private information to other people. Anyone you give the URL to will be able to access the calendar as if they were you. If you are the calendar owner, your private URL gives you read-write access to the calendar. It is doubly important that you do not give out this URL to anyone. Giving out your private URL as the calendar owner, will allow other people to have read-write access to your calendar. As the calendar owner, you can grant individual permission to people to view the events on your calendar or see your free-busy information without giving them read-write access to the calendar by adding them under the "Share with specific people" section on Calgoo Hub. Each person you add to this list will get their own private URL so that you can determine how much access each person has.

This is a great option for sharing things like your work schedule or your personal calendar which you do not want made publicly available.
